[U. (un canto)], 2024

U. is a musical performance, a concert, whose dramaturgy, curated by Alessandro Sciarroni with Aurora Bauzà and Pere Jou, consists of choral songs from the Italian repertoire composed between the mid-20th century and the present day.

The subjects of these choral songs talk about the relationship between human beings and nature, about the passing of time marked by the seasons and the work in the fields, about the relationship between the human element and the divine element. They tell of beauty and awe before nature, of virtues such as mercy, compassion, forgiveness, tolerance, endurance. They tell of the acceptance of human limitations with respect to the mystery of existence, the fragility of life, its transience, and the joy and privilege of being able to live it.

The interpreters of U. perform the chosen choral songs live, one after the other, alternating the original compositions with profound and long silences. Throughout the performance, starting from the back of the stage, the singers advance towards the audience, moving slowly and incessantly in unison.

The strength of the lyrics of these choral songs emphasizes how extraordinarily alive this tradition still is. Through their moving forward, the performers of U. consign to the audience the memory of what we were.
